Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt - Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker
Model Ice-20

The Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt - Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker is a practical and easy-to-use ice cream maker. The Ice-20 model has a 1½ quart capacity and can be used to make a variety of frozen treats, including ice cream, sorbet, frozen yoghurt, icies, and similar products. The unit consists of a base, which contains a heavy duty motor and a hideaway hole for the power cord, a mixing arm, freezer bowl, and cover.

The Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt - Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker is an automatic ice cream maker that does not require ice, salt, or hand cranking. To use the unit, you simply place the insulated, metal lined freezer bowl in the freezer for about 24-hours, or until it is well frozen. You then place the freezer bowl on the base, insert the mixing arm, and cover the bowl with the cover, and then turn on the machine. The cover has a large opening through which you add the ingredients. Make sure the machine is turned on (the bowl will begin to turn) before adding your ingredients. The unit comes with user-friendly instructions on how to use the unit, as well as an assortment of recipes that will help get you started on making your own home made treats. Additional recipes can be found online or via any number of cookbooks devoted to frozen treats, such as: Once your ingredients are added, simply sit back and wait for the treat to mix to the desired consistency. Normally, this will take only about twenty - thirty minutes. This will produce a soft, creamy ice cream. If you desire a harder type of ice cream, simply take the ice cream from the freezer bowl, place in container, and put into your freezer for a few hours until hard.

Clean up is very easy. The freezer bowl often only needs to be rinsed out, or can be washed by hand. The cover and mixing arm can be washed by hand or in a dish washer. The only drawback to this otherwise excellent ice cream maker is that it is on the noisy side, due to the powerful motor that the unit uses. There are quieter units available, but they tend to have weaker motors that will not hold up as well as the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt - Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker.

Before writing this review, I tested the Model Ice-20 Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt - Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker for a solid six months, making hundreds of batches of ice cream and other frozen treats. I found this unit to be a heavy duty, hard-working unit that was easy and convenient to use. The only time I had any trouble making ice cream was on a day when the temperature in the kitchen was in the mid-eighties. The hot room temperature caused the freezer bowl to unfreeze before the ice cream was fully mixed. In this case I merely took the ice cream out, refroze the bowl, and then remixed the ice cream to its proper consistency. This may be a good point to mention that your frozen treat will mix quicker and will turn out creamier if you make sure that all your ingredients are cold before adding them to the freezer bowl.

Most important, unlike some other ice cream makers that I've tested, even after months of hard use, the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt - Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker looks and works as well as it did the first time I laid eyes on it. Without reservation, I can say that this is the best frozen ice cream maker that I've ever used, and I have been extremely happy with the consistent results that it delivers. Therefore, I highly recommend the Cuisinart Frozen Yogurt - Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker Model Ice-20 to anyone looking for a quick and easy method of making home made ice cream and other frozen treats.
