Part etiquette book and part humor book, Somebody is Going to Die if Lilly Beth Doesn't Catch That Bouquet is essential reading if you are planning a wedding, or if you need just a wee bit of comic relief from stressful day! Written by Gayden Metcalfe and Charlotte Hays, the authors of Being Dead is No Excuse, this book gives you an eye opening look at what a proper Mississippi Delta, Southern wedding should be like. Tackling such prickly issues as what to serve at the wedding supper (recipes included) to the traditions associated with the wedding rehearsal.

With dry wit, Metcalfe and Hays take you on a grand tour of the Southern wedding phenomena from what to say, or not to say, when you find out that a Southern Girl has caught herself a man to what to do after the wedding is over, and everything in-between. They discuss the dos and don'ts of wedding etiquette, how to handle the mother-in-law situation, and writing those dreary, but must be done, thank-you notes.

Somebody is Going to Die if Lilly Beth Doesn't Catch That Bouquet is a fun book to read. Best of all, if you happen to be planning a wedding, it will give you a wealth of ideas on how you'd like your own wedding to be handled - and even more ideas of what to avoid! As well, for those of you not planning a wedding, you'll find this book delightful, not only for the insider look at the machinations surrounding a Delta wedding, but also for the host of scrumptious recipes that are included. The recipes range from Seven-Layer Torte and Jane Dubberly's Catfish Pate (it serves 50) to my favorite Chocolate Roll with Custard and Faux Champagne.

Without a doubt, Somebody is Going to Die if Lilly Beth Doesn't Catch That Bouquet is hugely entertaining and it offers a fascinating glimpse into the culinary and cultural wedding traditions of the Mississippi Delta region.
