Let's face it, whether this is your first pregnancy or you tenth, you are going to have lots of questions, because each pregnancy is unique. In the best of all worlds, you would have your own, private, OB/GYN that would always be on hand to answers all your questions. While that might not be possible, a second best option does exist. Dr. Glade B. Curtis, a Board-certified OB/GYN who, along with Judith Schuler, has written what has become the gold-standard of books for mothers-to-be. This book, Your Pregnancy Week by Week is available in a new, sixth edition that has been fully revised and updated. This best-selling pregnancy guide is a must-have for all moms-to-be.

Authoritative, yet easy to understand, this is the one book that you should have on hand to answer your questions when your personal physician is not available - or to help you determine when you should call your doctor. The book is organized on a week-by-week basis, from week 1 (the pregnancy begins) to week 41 (what to do when you're overdue). Also provided is advice on what to do when you are preparing to become pregnant, and what happens after you have delivered your new baby.

As you work your way through this book, the authors explain how your pregnancy is progressing, the changes to expect with your body, how your baby is developing, what tests you can expect your doctor to perform, exercises and eating tips for each week, and how to deal with any problems that you might be encounter, from morning sickness to going into premature labor. Throughout you will find numerous illustrations, helpful tips, a glossary of terms, and other helpful information.

What I found of most interest in this book were the authors' overviews of the various test that might be done during the course of a pregnancy, and why these tests might be necessary. Also important was the information on various common diseases, such as diabetes, and how they can impact a pregnancy - and the steps you can take to minimize any negative impact from these diseases. The authors also discuss why you should avoid certain substances, from illegal drugs to alcohol and some over the counter medicines - most important, they explain why. They also highlight those nutritional supplements that you should add to your diet, such as folic acid.

>From beginning to end, I found Your Pregnancy Week by Week to be a very informative book that will help all mothers-to-be, especially first time moms.
