Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything... in Business (and in Life)

According to Dov Seidman, in today's business climate, it's not what you do, but how you do it that matters! In his book, How: Why HOW We Do Anything Means Everything... in Business (and in Life), Seidman examines why how you do things is so important, and the impact that it can have on your business, and your life. Seidman has had a long career helping major companies improve the management and efficiency of not only their companies - but their employees as well. In this book, Seidman brings his years of personal experience in the business world to the table, to share with the reader his hard won insights and business strategies that will help you succeed - in whatever you try.

How is organized into four main sections.
  1. The first part tackles the question of how business operations have changed in the face of the flood of new technologies and openness fostered by such forces as the Internet, and why these changes have made how you do things so important.

  2. Next, Seidman tackles how to implement the various 'HOWs' that exist, and how you can best harness them to make your business more productive and dynamic.

  3. The third section offers advice on how you can channel your efforts, and your 'HOWS' to succeed in today's business environment.

  4. Finally, Seidman deals with how the interaction between people, and the organizational culture can make or break a business. He also offers invaluable advice on how you can help your business succeed by empowering your employees to take control of their own work environment and the organization as a whole.
Throughout this eye opening book, Seidman has included a host of case studies of 'HOW' in action, as well as enlightening anecdotes, excerpts from interviews, and current research that illustrates how people think, and how 'HOW' can influence behavior both in and out of the work place. Combined, this book examines how we, as individuals and as corporations, can have a profound impact on those around us and how we can use this 'power' to influence events and to excel in our endeavors. He also explains that to reach our personal goals and succeed, we can, and must, change 'HOW' we think about ourselves and our endeavors in order to excel into today's wired and hectic environment.

In short, Seidman advocates for such core values as trust, honesty, integrity, and transparency in all aspects of your life - both personal and business. It is a simplistic lesson - that if you are trustworthy, honest, and offer a solid product and treat your customers well, people will buy from you time and again. Treat them poorly, lie to them, or offer them shoddy merchandise, and you've lost a customer for life. Simplistic or not, it is a lesson that far too many people have never learned! If you learn nothing else from this book, your time will have been well spent. Odds are, however, that you will come away with much more...
