Elmore Leonard's 10 Rules of Writing is a pithy little book that provides practical insights into the art and craft of writing. The prolific and best-selling author, Elmore Leonard, offers sage advice garnered from his years of writing experience. Leonard's rules of writing are enhanced by whimsical pen and ink illustrations and caricatures by Joe Ciardiello.

This is an extremely short book, word count wise, but the advice that Leonard proffers will aid anyone serious about writing fiction, or in improving their writing skills in general. Each rule is given its own mini chapter, with the rule listed first followed by Leonard's brief commentary on the rule. Some of these commentaries are as short as two sentences. Others run as much as a paragraph or two. To be honest, I doubt that the entire text of this book would fill more than two or three sheets of paper. Despite its brevity, this is a fun and practical book for writers, and it would make a perfect gift for the writer who has everything. All the rules are to the point and pragmatic - and they are rules that every writer would do well to follow.
