Christmas Around the World is an innovative and highly addictive, interactive, 12-page, pop-up book that will delight readers of all ages! In addition to the main text and the fascinating pop-ups that comprise the bulk of this book, it also contains 65 color illustrations, 60 photos, and eleven booklets. These booklets chronicle various aspects of Christmas celebrations, traditions, and legends from around the world, providing fascinating tidbits of information on everything from definitions of tradition British holiday practices such as Wassailing and burning the Yule Log to the history of Santa from his humble beginnings as a lowly elf to his current status as a superstar! The booklets, and much of the text, are hidden throughout the book, and you have to unfold or flip-back pages, pull tabs, or otherwise hunt around to find these delicious tidbits of information.

Most important, the book contains five marvelous 3-D pop-ups that illustrate Christmas scenes from Great Britain, Italy, Germany, France, and Russia. There is also a pop-up featuring a world map, and a freestanding pop-up is also included. With the exception of the freestanding pop-up, the pop-ups in this book cover a two-page spread, and the book can be laid opened and the pop-ups used as unique decorations.

While the pop-ups are eye-popping in their own right, the illustrations that accompanying them are equally gorgeous and run the gamut from vintage images of Santa Claus to modern images of Paris lit up for the holiday season. This delightful book was created by Chuck Fischer, a well-known designer and creator of pop-up books. While this book is an artist treat for the eye, the accompanying text is also edifying and can be used as a read-aloud book for younger children. Due to the fragility of the pop-ups, this is not a book for young children to read alone. By extension, the very nature of this book makes it an ideal book for parents or grandparents to read together with their younger counterparts. Older kids and adults will enjoy not only reading the book, but also discovering where all the text is hidden, as well as marveling at the intricate pop-ups. In short, this is a unique Christmas book that not only makes for a delectable Christmas collectible, but the book as a whole is one that is sure to fascinate every member of the family from 1 to 120 as you take an unforgettable Christmas journey around the world!
